Tea, Haiti and Weddings

Oh hey. Whats up?

I spent the first part of my day watching the movie Zeitgeist, which among other things attempts to convince those who watch it that all religions, specifically Christianity come from a primitive understanding of astrology.. I have been told by many people that I NEED to watch it. I was however completely unconvinced, even though I approached it's viewing with a mind open enough to swallow light... Along the theme of religion, I also watched part of the series "John Safran VS. God." I really enjoyed it, because it was funny. The protagonist of the series who is a small squeaky voiced Australian Jew, explores a good number of religious beliefs, including Voodoo, Hinduism, Buddhism, The Church of Peyote, Catholicism, Mormonism and he even tries to join the KKK... Apart from being funny and slightly offensive, he makes you think about different points of view in a comedic and experienced way.. He thoroughly engages in all the different belief systems he explores by doing things such as living like a Buddhist monk for a week; Being an alter server and going to confession in a Catholic church; taking peyote and living in the desert for a few days and looking for his own personal guru in India, not to mention pitching his idea about extreme cycling missionaries to different Mormon movie producers.

So I just got back from a 9 hour shift.. I was washing dishes for a Haitian wedding.. The Haitians had come a long long way, and there were a lot of them. Very aloof people.. They expect a certain level of service, and had a way of looking down on the hotel workers who were bringing them food and drinks. A number of the workers said this made them uncomfortable, but they seemed quite friendly to me. I was also pleased to see that they were not the live goat testicle eating voodoo type Haitians, which are the only ones I have heard about. This made me think that it is a shame that the only things we hear about little know cultures are the extremes which make them seem incompatible with our own.. Still, I guess the EMO trend would seem pretty outlandish to your average Haitian.

I really must get some sleep in now.. I am very tired indeed.. I am also pleased that the word "EMO" is not recognized by the Blogger spell checker.
